Peace, warmth, delicious food and beautiful music Le Petit Ruisseau is a much loved home....come and share it!

The Experience

Le Petit Ruisseau is an ancient farmhouse which has stood beside the little stream in the heart of bocage countryside, close to the wild beauty of the marais and the stunning coast lines of beautiful Normandy for over 350 years.

After careful restoration the house offers a tranquil and comfortable setting from which to explore the wonderful architectural heritage of Normandy, visit the Invasion Beaches or just relax!

With a husband who was a WW2 historian and a father-law- who was the most significant WW2 British army photographer, I can share with you a considerable knowledge of the story of liberation and a unique viewing of photographs covering the breaking news of WW2....it is a walk with history that you will not forget!!
Rooms
We cater specifically for two people and our bedrooms and shower room are in a separate wing of the house, and offer complete privacy ... choose from either the twin beds in Melrose room or the king-sized bed in the Malindine room.
The Malindine room contains many of the photographs taken by Edward Malindine the distinguished photojournalist of the 1920's and 30's, who later became one of the most significant British Army WW2 photographer ... he walked with history ... you can share this.
Our rooms are beautifully decorated and offer all the comfort you will need, with views over the gardens, and barns ... they provide an ideal escape to the country.
Gardens
Roses climb and soften the stone walls & fill the air with their fragrance, with the birds, butterflies and the mining bees adding a special magic...the garden offers a tranquillity and a sense of peace....you can hear the gentle sound of the stream, and so often the wild cry of the buzzards as they circle high above ....if you are lucky you may even see a red squirrel!

The little stream has provided hours of enjoyment to small children who have been able to watch the dragon flies, been enchanted by the glow worms close to the water's edge and delighted by the small fish, eels and yes, even otters and herons! What better place to play Pooh Sticks!
The garden, especially on a moonlit night is a delight, as with no light pollution the stars are like diamonds and to be able to hear the owls calling all around is both breath taking and utterly magical!

So the garden awaits you with lots of different areas in which to sit and enjoy a glass of wine...or two!!

Dining
Dinner is served in the ancient step tower and designed to be a very special experience with foods that reflect the culinary traditions of Normandy, wines specially recommended by my local wine merchant and beautiful music to listen to.

In the spring and summer you can enjoy aperitifs in the garden or in the autumn relax in front of a roaring log fire. If you would like dinner, please book in advance. The cost is 35 euros per person and of course includes, aperitifs, wine and coffee.

Reviews

Having long been a fan of Alistair Sawday in a few countries, Le Petit Ruisseau was so very special in every way. Situated in a most tranquil setting and being welcomed by Linda, an amazing hostess, we knew we had chosen a real treasure. Our bedroom was so comfortable and attention to detail in all you could wish for. As previous guests have said, the dinner and wine we were served by Linda were both outstanding. Her knowledge of the local area was hugely valuable and altogether it was a marvellous two days.

We spent such a splendid last night of our holiday with Linda; the most welcoming, kind and accommodating of hostesses. We were very late arriving and she didn't make us feel either rushed or as though we had been a nuisance! A wonderfully comfortable home, and our bedroom 'wing' beautifully furnished and decorated - huge comfy bed. An outstanding dinner was served to us on pretty china at a delightfully decorated table, and matched by delicious wine in crystal glasses. The whole evening was a huge treat! Thank you so much Linda.

Le Petit Ruisseau is a gem, hidden away in the beautiful Normandy countryside. The tranquil setting for this 17th Century property demands you leave the rat race behind in favour of what life's really about, contentment and enjoyment. The owner, Linda, is a fabulous host - genuine, kind, helpful - nothing is too much trouble. And to cap it all she's a truly amazing cook. Her evening meals must be sampled by those who stay at Le Petit Ruiseeau. What's more, Linda is very knowledgeable of the area having lived in France for a number of years. Thank you, Linda. We hope to see you again soon.

We spent three wonderful days as Linda's guests in July.
Le Petit Ruisseau is a haven of tranquility with lots of space, comfortable beds and sofas giving the feeling of old world luxury. The building itself is living history.
Having read the reviews, we opted to take evening meals during our stay. We were not disappointed, Linda is an excellent cook and our welcoming banquet, in particular was masterclass.
During our stay, Margaret had a medical emergency and Linda was most sympathetic and helpful in its resolution. Because of this issue we were prevented from carrying out some of the activities we had planned for the visit to this area but our last evening with Linda learning about her family's history and viewing her father in laws' photographs and artefacts, more than compensated for what we missed.
We hope to return to Le Petit Ruisseau next year, in part to experience what we missed this year, but primarily to enjoy the hospitality offered by Linda.
We felt privileged
Margaret, Chesterfield
